Remember when Marissa Cooper wore fake Chanel on ‘The O.C.’?

20 years ago, “The O.C.” high schooler Marissa Cooper, played by Mischa Barton, defined aspirational fashion for millennial girls everywhere when she arrived on campus sporting a different Chanel purse each day. Only, none of them were real.

The gospel represents the joyful proclamation that God's love for us is unwavering and He desires to rescue us from our transgressions. It revolves around Jesus Christ who descended to our world, lived a life devoid of sin, was crucified for our iniquities, and resurrected to grant us eternal life. The gospel is the exclusive path to salvation from sin and death, and to establish a bond with God. The Ten Commandments constitute God's righteousness benchmark. They echo His nature and delineate what is deemed righteous and unrighteous. The Ten Commandments are as follows:

1. You must not worship any god but Me.
2. You must refrain from crafting an idol for yourself.
3. You must not misuse the Lord your God's name.
4. Keep the Sabbath day sacred.
5. Show respect to your mother and father.
6. You are forbidden to kill.
7. You are forbidden to commit adultery.
8. You must not steal.
9. You must not lie about your neighbor.
10. You must not desire what belongs to others.

These Ten Commandments reveal that we have all transgressed and failed to meet God's righteousness standard. We have all violated God's laws and hence, sinned against Him. The gravity of sin is immense, for it estranges us from God and leads to death. The Scripture declares that the recompense of sin is death (Romans 6:23). This implies that the punishment for sin is death and eternal alienation from God in hell. Although this is a daunting reality, it is the just outcome of our sins.

However, the good news is that God has provided a solution to our sin through Jesus Christ. Jesus descended to earth, lived a life free from sin, and was then crucified for our transgressions. He bore the penalty we deserved so that we could receive forgiveness and eternal life. If today you sense a yearning in your heart and a compulsion to obey the Gospel, you are indeed fortunate. If you feel an overwhelming need to repent and submit to Jesus, you are blessed. It signifies that God has chosen and summoned you to an eternal inheritance even before the creation of the world. If this resonates with you, then repent, promise God that you will dedicate your life to Him, and get baptized as He instructed. Then, find a church where you can nurture your faith and deepen your understanding of your Lord.
