I'm not condoning what happened...an "I forgot" is not an adequate defense that should result in no criminal repercussions. However, I would bet any amount of money that the parents/grandparents this happens to have all wondered approximately the same thing: how can you forget your child?; This is not possible, I would never do this; This was intentional; etc. PLEASE DON'T LET YOURSELF THINK IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU! Be mindful everytime you are in your vehicle and park it, of where you are, what you're doing and who's with you. Can someone provide any example of this happening to someone who's not going to work?

I can tell you that a common thread of conversation at the watercooler is how people drive in to work on autopilot and don't remember the drive. Translate that to driving with a sleeping infant who was probably in a rear facing car seat...

Maura MacDonald Agreed. I will never forget watching an Oprah episode on this topic when I was pregnant with my oldest child. One of the experts on the show recommended putting your work bag/tote/purse in the backseat so you have to open that back door each and every time you get out of the car. When you open the door to get your stuff, regardless of how tired or distracted you might be, you’ll see the child and significantly reduce the likelihood of making such a tragic mistake. I still do that today (out of habit) and my kids are 19 and 15. I also have a car that notifies me to “check the rear seat” each time I turn my car off. My heart hurts for this entire family and may that sweet baby RIP…

How careless are people nowadays. So you are saying for 8 hrs no one check on the child’s wellbeing at the daycare? No parents check in on the child ? So many questions to ask but this is happening too often now and it’s happening all over the world yet people are still not taking the extra precautions to ensure these vulnerable baby are being protected. I made it an hobby to always put something in the rear seat, especially since have my daughters. Do not leave your vehicle in a rush. I can’t see how this grandmother forgot the baby unless it was deliberate.

She forgot about the baby. It could happen with anyone in their daily routine. When my daughter and she is the only one I have was little, every time I parked my car I would check if she was not with me because I’m the mom and she was all the time with me and she attended
day-care as well at the time and it was my worst nightmare to forget her in my car . I would call my husband and asked him if he had dropped her off in the day care when I couldn’t go. But probably this poor grandma did follow her daily routine and forgot about having the baby with her. I think she is the one suffering more and unable to forgive herself. Judging her here will not help. But people need to be more careful when they have a baby on their caring. Very sorry for the entire family. What a horrible death this angel baby had. RIP
