I can see the comment section is not shy of underestimating West Virginians. This loss is a great one to not only the students currently in attendance, but to the historical town of Philippi and Barbour County. The college has been a major hub for economic revenue for the town. The students helped keep businesses open.

The original Lurch from the Addams Family was from Philippi. In fact, Lurchfest is going on if anyone is local enough to support the town.

West Virginia is pretty familiar with "slicing off the nose to spite the face", but this state has offered some very talented and innovative folks to the world. Alderson Broaddus has had many alumni who have become high profile individuals and countless others who have been indisputably successful in their lives.

As an alumna, I am heartbroken to see this news, but proud of what my time there provided. I hope everyone gets to experience the life-changing power of a place such as that beautiful hilltop, its kind people, and its beloved energy that empowers one to be a force for positive change-- not just in the world, but within oneself.

Once a Battler, always a Battler.
