A fetus is not viable outside the womb before 20 to 24 weeks depending on the fetus. Another point that should be taken to consideration is outside of intervention by medical professions if a mother were to drop dead outside of 24 weeks the fetus would also die. These are not situations that you find yourself in when dealing with a child.

However, you are referred to as father to be and she is referred to as mother to be. I have cards from before my birth and this is exactly how my parents were referred to in the early '70s. They use the phrase to be because you can only be a father to a child and a child and a fetus are not the same thing. The insurance industry does not agree with you because you cannot put life insurance on a fetus. The federal government does not agree with you because you cannot claim a fetus on your taxes.
