A Vietnamese electric carmaker is now worth more than Volkswagen and Ford | CNN Business

One of Vietnam’s biggest automakers has made a big splash on its entry to Wall Street.

Zach Alexander yes, now that is true that car batteries are using a greater portion of cobalt, but that is a very recent development. But there are other factors that make this argument against EVs a false flag. No one complained as they bought all sorts of devices and products with lithium ion batteries in the past - all electronics, toys, medical devices, paint, tools, and petroleum products so complaining now when vehicle replacement is one of the best tools to fight climate change (which is harming far more people than cobalt mining) is pretty hollow. The other factor being ignored…advances in vehicle batteries that have been made to created better and less expensive battery tech that doesn’t require cobalt.

The way cobalt is obtained in Congo is terrible, but there are other sources, like not leaving it behind as a by-product of copper mining and recovering cobalt in recycling processes, and replacements have been developed that are decreasing the need.

LA Burke Reliable Troll ignorance. There's no such thing as a "depleted dead battery". 10 minute battery swap stations already exist. Charging stations absolutely carpet the UK and many other countries. And home charging is an option for at least 40% of households. Intelligent EV users never wait to charge. We charge as convenient when doing something else like sleeping, shopping, visiting family, going to the library, watching a movie, attending the theatre... 2,184 ICE Vehicles run out of fuel on UK roads every week. You don't need adapter plugs unless you're plugging into a charger that was never originally designed for your vehicle. You need to catch up with an age in which everything runs on batteries and there are adapters for every combination of electric device. Welcome to the 21st Century!

Matt Kressin just a battery that can't travel long distances, and you may have to drive 50 miles off of your route to find a charging station! Sounds like fun! Try running your air conditioner, and radio, and all the other electric stuff in your car, and see how far you can travel on one charge! To each his own! I keep all my cars serviced! I hope you don't have to replace one of those 30,000.00 batteries! That sounds pretty expensive! Hopefully it doesn't blow up like cell phone batteries do, but I've already seen some horror stories about that! Good luck, you'll need it

Stacy Gore batteries are 100% recyclable as we have 8 companies in usa building billion dollar factories for recycling! Educate yourself!

There is a better technology to move away from oil. EV's use less electricity, less resources, 3x less pollution, no noise pollution, freedom to fuel at home, freedom to make your own fuel, they are fast and agile, no maintenance costs, and saves you 50% over gas costs. It's a no bainer!

I don't want words, I want facts to back you up. Did you know batteries are recyclable? Did you know that when we hit 60% saturation, we no longer need to extract from Mother Earth because there will be enough recovered from recycling? Did you know that Tesla's own process is 100% as they have a patent on it?

Did you also know that ICE cars take up more earth resources than EV's? Here is an actual study on that.

Suddenly, you became a tree hugger! But I'm not buying it. Not only is cobalt (child labor) used to process oil, but it is also mined for alloys in engine blocks. Most new batteries have eliminated cobalt! And did you not know that Pladium and Platnium are mined for catalytic converters? Those are in 2 billion cars. Have you seen iron ore mines for engine blocks? That is the #1 resource mined. So, where was your concern about harmful mining for the last 100 years? Can you answer me on that?

Did you also know that there are about 180 million gallons of oil leaked from cars each year! This runs off into streams and lakes.

Did you know there are about 210 million gallons of antifreeze leaked from cars each year! This is toxic to animals and fish! Did you forget that radiators are built with minerals from copper mines?

Did you know 6-8 million people are killed globally from the toxic fumes from ICE vehicles each year? Yikes!

Did you know oil fracking is toxic to the ground water? Oil rigs leak 880k gallons of oil each year. 6 million metric tons of pollution each year go into our air from refineries in North America.

Did you know that car emissions are one of the main factors of 8 million people globally dying from pollution?

We use 17.5 billion liters of oil worldwide every day, this takes 46 billion liters of water to produce. With this water, you could make lithium batteries for 1.5 million Tesla's – every day

How do you not know any of this being a newfound tree hugger?
