Let's talk about the line your dollar ain't worth s**t, with inflation and how much we're taxed, your dollar truly isn't worth anything these days. You've got property taxes, federal taxes, state taxes, sales tax, capital gains tax in some states a gas tax, inheritance tax. But the overall meaning of the song is he's an old soul living in a new world where he doesn't fit or belong. It's also about how the government doesn't give a crap about anyone left and right. At least that's what I took away from the song.

Move, retrain for new job, 7 or 8 layoffs, 3 former employers no longer exist and 2 military bases closed. Such is life, you go on to new and different things.
