Happens to all MLB teams. Remember the 1969 Chicago Cubs disaster. They went from being in 1st place by 8 games to slumping out of first place to the New York Mets by about the same amount of games in September of 1969. My cousins in Deerfield, Illinois were at their wits end. They were inconsolable for the remainder of 1969 until Spring Training of 1970. The Cubs lost 17 consecutive games in September of 1969. The New York Mets won the NL East and beat the NL West winner Atlanta Braves to win the NL Pennant and beat the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series.
