Biden cancels $72 million in student loan debt for borrowers who went to for-profit Ashford University

Even though President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program was blocked by the Supreme Court earlier this year, his administration is moving forward with more targeted student debt cancellations allowed under existing programs.

Petter Gjernstadmad then don’t complain when you’re not happy with what the current administration is doing and I say that with all due respect. We definitely had a way better economy under the last administrations leadership. That’s just a fact. I want to be able to support my family, Afford my electric bill thats doubled, be able to put gas in my car to get back and forth to work. I want to be able to afford groceries again. I’m voting Red! My family is just more important than Putin or the Ukraine and I am a America First voter and proud of it To each their own. God Bless

I'm beyond disappointed—I'm actually outraged. We were promised change, but canceling $72 million in student debt for Ashford University students is like using a band-aid for a broken leg. It's so infuriatingly insufficient. What about the legions of borrowers sinking in debt from state schools, community colleges, and other institutions? The scale of this problem is gargantuan, dwarfing this meager attempt at relief. We were led to believe that substantive, transformative action was coming. This is a slap in the face to those of us who had higher expectations for sweeping, equitable solutions. It feels like a monumental letdown, and I'm genuinely disheartened by this half-measured.

Elizabeth Harvey literally today 100s of people in this country just lost their homes to a storm, I love how you think it's so hysterically funny. I rent so i didn't have no home owners insurance but plenty of people who had home owners insurance were completely screwed over by them. I pay my taxes just like I'm supposed to and I got absolutely no help so yes I do blame the government. You probably think people being forced onto the street after natural disasters is so hysterically funny because when you were my age in 1950 you could easily buy a new home and land for pennies. People like you might be human on the outside but you're terrible monsters on the inside.

Also, forgiving all of these loans tells these colleges that the government is going to pick up the tab therefore increasing tuition rates. But I do agree with you. There needs to be a reform when it comes to all of this. By the way, I currently have a son who is in his third year of college. I worked my ass off as a cocktail waitress for 19 years to pay for his schooling. I received no child support his entire life and did what I had to do to make sure that my son got the education he deserved. I am not rich by any means but I sacrificed greatly so he could go to school. He currently holds a 4.0 GPA and I couldn’t be more proud that all my hard work getting him there and all his hard work studying will make him a successful and beneficial person in society. If I can do it, I believe anyone can too.
