1ºWarren Pace Some days I do that after reading about corruption in the USA. Having to listen to a man who told 30,000 lies and Republicans as corrupt could not convict because it would expose all those lies. THat day every American flag I passed I wanted it to burn. Has no meaning when an administration does that. It is total disrespect to the sons and daughters in our wars that died defending ideas especially when we do it for an ally. So no big deal someone in the Middle East wanting burn our flag because Americans fed up with lies and corruption do it every day. Where the meaning lies is not a piece of cloth hanging on a pole. It is the hand you shake when doing business knowing that person implements the ideas of the Constitution in who they hire and how they do their services. It is the medical facility taking care of your loved one daily displaying Constitutional ideas in giving choices while they lay dying or healing. It is the school system taking in immigrant children no matter what status the parents are because we all were once immigrants too. Not a piece of cloth.

The devotees of the Lord are released from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is offered first for sacrifice. Others, who prepare food for personal sense enjoyment, verily eat only sin.

In other Vedic scriptures, we find more details as to what qualifies as food for our consumption - milk, milk products, grains, fruits, roots, legumes, vegetables except onion and garlic, sugar, millets and many other such naturally available things.
We need to eat something..we can't eat stones, dirt and such but a little common sense and a compassionate mind should tell us to commit the least violence possible so we can keep our body and soul together.
Plants don't feel much pain just like small children. Babies are not given anaesthesia sometimes when they are operated upon because they don't feel much pain. Similarly when you cut a branch of a tree, it does not protest but a cow is almost like a human being in terms of its evolution of consciousness. They cry when it's their turn to be killed - one can watch the slaughter house videos to understand how they suffer.
What distinguishes us from animals is our compassion and if we are not compassionate to the weaker section of our society who depend on our protection then we are no better than animals and we will be punished by the laws of nature.
it is stated in the Vedas: āhāra-śuddhau sattva-śuddhiḥ sattva-śuddhau dhruvā smṛtiḥ smṛti-lambhe sarva-granthīnāṁ vipramokṣaḥ.
By performance of sacrifice one’s eatables become sanctified, and by eating sanctified foodstuffs one’s very existence becomes purified; by the purification of existence finer tissues in the memory become sanctified, and when memory is sanctified one can think of the path of liberation, and all these combined together lead to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the great necessity of present-day society.
