How much to tip this holiday

Tipping culture has changed a lot over the last few years, and many Americans are confused about whether and how much to tip.

Ray Dunkle Again, the system is broken and at least those in public service have health insurance. The customer is as responsible for allowing this to happen as the worker. Restaurants do not care about the worker, they only care about the customer walking through that door. Customers striking would do far more good than employees. Bt striking, I mean not patronizing those establishments not avoiding tipping. I work in education and I do not expect a tip. Restaurant workers have no choice but to rely on tips. And for the record, they have been trying to strike for years but all they hear is how their job isn't worth $10 or $15 an hour. Everyone is too worried that the prices would go up too much to concentrate.
So again, it is everyone's problem.

The problem with tipping is that it comes AFTER the service is provided!

And in this day, service is so dismal everywhere for everything! My local restaurant with several locations is the only place I can (usually) count on good service. I'm a retiree living on my SS, but I still want to recognize good service with 20% plus. But I refuse to reward bad service! Yesterday our server was SOOO bad, couldn't remember what she was told 30 seconds ago and couldn't give correct change when Bill paid in cash (and wasn't allowed access to the register, and I could see why). So she lost out on 1/3 of her tip when she didn't give me my full change...

Ray Dunkle It is interesting how people want to use the "teachers, nurses, police don't get tipped and don't get paid enough" argument ...but no one ever says "don't like it, get another job" to them. The system is the problem. Restaurant workers should get a living wage. Public servants should be much better compensated for the work they do. The system is the problem and we are part of that problem because WE all let it happen. That is why the "get another job" comment is lazy and selfish. We all caused the problem but none of us want to do the work to fix it. If you don't want to help fix it, then tip.

I'm sorry for writing everywhere and contacting everywhere, but it's not because of a good life, but because of hopelessness, my mother and I are in a difficult situation, my mother is sick and the war in Ukraine leaves us in poverty, there are cases when people are already starving here and have nothing to pay the rent, my countrymen are being killed every day, I cannot remain silent, because this is a genocide of Ukrainians, of us ordinary people who did not want this bloody war, if you don't care, ignore this message, if not, share with others, do not remain indifferent, war can come to any country and at any time, no one is safe from anything now. Please be merciful to me, help with a repost, it's also a big help.If you don't care about my situation and don't trust me, please ignore this message, thank you.

Ray Dunkle I am so sick of hearing that comment "get a better job". No, that is the lazy, selfish response. We as a society allowed this to happen and must all face the consequence. As a society we allowed a tax break to be made to restaurants that allows them to not pay a living wage. To say that is not your business is lazy and selfish on your part. And guess what ...you still pay that tip in the end when the server has to utilize welfare or some other aid.
What happens when they do get another job, what happens when they all get another job. Restaurant and hospitality workers make up over 39% of our workforce . Do you have any idea what that would to the economy?? Guess what you are seeing it now because they are getting other jobs. For every action there is a reaction.
The answer is not "get another job", the answer is help fight to make a change in how the system works. In the meantime, tip your server and stop being part of the problem.

The 7th october attack by Hamas was really awful and NOTHING JUSTIFIED IT. I'm truly sorry for all those victims and their families' grieve. However, you just need to be a sensitive and thinking human being to understand what is happening in Gaza, where on one side there are people trapped, with no way to defend themselves, without water, food or reachable humanitarian aid. With nowhere to escape, traveling in carts pulled by exhausted donkeys. A people made up, for the most part, of defenseless children. And on the other side, empty tunnels, without people, without hostages. These hostages that are now being killed by the IDF bombs. And in Israel, people living normally, without bombings hitting them or starvation and disease. This is not defense, it passed being revenge, it's senseless collective punishment on innocent people. It's a carnage, a massacre, like UN and many international NGOs working in Gaza alert.
It is an enormous cowardice and a giant hypocrisy of the Western world. This world has reached a level of insanity and immorality unprecedented in this century.
Nevertheless, in every era, there were always those who resisted. Many can die, but their ideas won't.
Unfortunately, from now on, Europe and the USA will see what terrorism truly is. Because it will fall on them, they will reap what they helped to plant. I wish you all a good year, a moment to reflect upon what you are supporting. It's not the jews, they deserve more than this dreadful legacy. This time, USA is on the wrong side of history, helping a dictator out of control committing a genocide. AND NOTHING JUSTIFIES IT.
