Nancy Belyea I agree with your pragmatic approach to troubleshooting the issue. Sure, under many circumstances, removing such a legendary head coach would seem problematic. I'd suggest you take a look at Patriots history over the past five years before going with your initial senses on this one. In reality, the Patriots have been declining year-over-year for a little while now. Many of the problems over the past few years can be traced back to GM or head coach decisions (Belichick fills both roles). Player performance has also been an issue, but at the end of the day, what we have here is pure evidence of how games like football are won by the team, not the individual. Team chemistry and cohesiveness are often overlooked as factors. So, when the Pats had stellar players and coaching, and fantastic team chemistry, they were unstoppable. What we have now is, strong-to-stellar players, combined with some good coaches, but low chemistry and dysfunction within the organization as a whole. When that happens, you need to make many changes. Let's also add on Belichick's legendary style and tactics are now well-known across the league, and thus are easier to counter in the game as a whole. He is no longer as unpredictable as he once was. And this is coming from one of his fans! Truth is, every dog has his day, but that also means every dog has his sunset. It is time for Belichick to head off to the sunset as we tip our hats and respect and admiration to one of the best to coach the game.
