Michael Flanagan Until you’ve experienced what someone else has for exact same reasons, you shouldn’t judge the manner in which they are recognized. First and foremost she undoubtedly deserved the award for her talent. Nonetheless, in an industry dominated by race since its inception, it’s important for young girls who’ve been marginalized because of their race to see a relatable face achieving something so few others have-so it should also be celebrated. Until
such time as race and racism no
longer factor into how people see each other or are viewed, I see nothing wrong with elevating successes such as Quinta’s.

Jeff Stiles Right I understand that. But that's not why she got the reward. Again it's just mentioning that she's the first and a very very long time. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's just mentioning "first" just like any other time. I would see your point if it had just been like two or three year difference. Then I would be like yeah that's overboard. But they're just saying it's been a long time. No difference than saying the Lions winning the first playoff in 32 years. So that's the headline because it's been a long time.
