In the civil fraud case, which is in New York state court, if Trump can’t post the funds or get a bond, then the judgment would take effect immediately and a sheriff could begin seizing Trump’s assets. Can Trump delay payment by appealing the verdicts? NO! In all three cases, he has to put money in an escrow account with the court or get a bond while he’s appealing the verdicts. With the civil fraud verdict, which Trump has vowed to appeal, the amount to be posted or bonded is set by the court. It is typically about 120 to 125 percent of the judgment amount, to account for additional post-judgment interest that accrues during the appeal. BTW the interest on this amount of money occurs at 1 million a day OUCH!

3ºEdward M. Rugh I just did, under the statute he had no right to a jury trial, just a bench trial. He could have litigated that but the same court denied the same motion in a prior case. So James picked a law that would be decided by a judge in a bench trial and put in front of a partisan judge. She had to pick that law because there were no 3rd parties complaining, they all made money. We’ll see how this holds up under appeal, this judge doesn’t have a good record under appeal so far! In 2022, Forbes Magazine, a respected and decades long reporter on global wealth, valued the property at $350 million. Currently, on a Palm Beach real estate website, there is a bare lot, 2 and a 3rd acres listed for $200 million and another bare lot, less than an acre, listed for $55 million. Is Engoron attempting to defraud with his devaluation of Mar a Lago? The bankers who accepted Trump’s valuations, also did their own due diligence and testified at sentencing, the loans were paid in full and on time, also saying they had not been defrauded. It’s odd the victims of this alleged fraud would refute the State’s charge and the judgment would be damages in excess of $350 million. In civil cases, damages generally have some relationship to financial and/or reputational damage. $0 damages and a $355 million award are antithetical to a long held tenet of the law.
