John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
There at the cross in an excruciating pain and agony, shame sorrow and extreme humiliation, experiencing all of these despised the shame and suffering looking into the awaiting glory with the eyes of hope for the human race; of which beforehand were hopeless and exposed to curses, bondages, eternal doom, and futile destinies and yokes. After all, that's what was written in the law and prophets, and that's the reason He came anyway; that He might live to die and forever be alive. The statement made, " it is finished" depicts fulfilment and an astounding victory for they that lived in His generation, for we in this present generation and the unborn generation that are yet to come.
It was, and is a statement of an open door to a new era of possibilities unspeakable which even angels desire to look into. The proclamation "it is finished", opened the door and granted us the possibility of salvation.
Matthew 27:51
