The Body Shop shuts down all US operations, closes dozens of stores in Canada | CNN Business

The Body Shop has shut down all of its US-based operations and will be closing dozens of Canadian store locations as it files for bankruptcy.

Their products are HORRIBLE these days and have been for YEARS. 80% of my products used to be The Body Shop. But years back they changed their whole business model and the quality went down the drain while the prices skyrocketed (pre-crappy ecomony inflation). Everything smells cheap and generic, the scents don't last, their packaging is smaller, they rarely offer sales, they used to have a great customer loyalty program. They're stuff used to be unique. I remember you'd walk by the store and it smelled so good, you used to be able to make your own customs scents. Last time I order Body Butter it was rancid. They pused to have such a great ethical stance and do good for communities. Its sad to see where they've gone over the past 10 years.

David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery C.E.O., on Hollywood’s Challenges | DealBook Summit 2023 (11-30-2024)

@4:42 David Zaslav says, “The most formative moment for me was I went to work for Jack Welch to build the cable group.”

Jack Welch, when he retired from GE, nominated replacement CEO Jeff Imelt who in 2017 moved a profitable GE factory producing transportation parts from PA to TX intending for GE to make profits on the backs of workers by paying lower wages in a non-union state.

GE Transportation
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_Transportation

The move from PA to TX by Jeff Imelt backfired during the actual physical move and in the accounting move when the company lost tens of millions of dollars in gross revenue from PA and increased capital expense in TX. Jeff Imelt was fired and a new ceo of GE was hired in 2018. In 2019, due to the losses from the move, GE sold the entire subsidiary of GE transportation to another company.

@5:31 David Zaslav says, “We were spending over a billion dollars on director streaming movies. It's very difficult to come in. We looked for a couple of months. What are we getting? Are we gaining Subs if we could just creating value we blew the whistle and we said director streaming movies don't work.”

He repeatedly says subs, sometimes people use jargon because they are wannabe, instead of just saying subscriptions. Like Caroline Kennedy’s son Jack Schlossberg the jew who wannabe president but won’t be president. It’s going to take more than a few months to form and implement a successful strategy for profitability in streaming.

@10:20 David Zaslav, “If we produce a show that's 100 a movie that’s $100 million or a show that's a $100 million, we've spent a hundred million dollars and if we don't air it then it's gone. We don't we don't make we don't make it have any real benefit from it. The question is, you know, should we take certain of these movies and open them in the theater and spend another 30 or 40 million dollars to promote them.”

If a project costs 100 million dollars is shelfed, you shouldn’t even consider sinking another 30 or 40 million dollars to market it the Theatre. Actually, if you are Warner that has a streaming service, a movie that is shelved would be ideal for access with a “sub,” or through DVD sales. Using “subs” and DVD sales is a less expensive means to try and recoup costs on a 100 million dollar shelved project.

@13:26 David Zaslav, “And we were getting there but and And this disruption this idea of people consuming content on Tick-Tock going to different streaming services.”

Net Flix is a content created subscription on demand streaming service. Tik Tok is a service to upload copyright free videos, and it is a free service with advertising. Tik Tok is NOT a “sub” streaming service.

@14:23 David Zaslav says, “The business had changed, you know, it used to be that you could have 80 100 people at every cable channel. Now you have one marketing team running all of it.”

There is enterprise in streamlining a conglomerate company’s marketing. However, each subsidiary that is a unique busines needs to retain a specific team to address the uniqness of the business environment that subsdiary is operating in. A one team fits all for Warner Corporate, or CNN, for the streaming service is could create tunnel vision. In this case, a single marketing team for all units is not scaled to efficiency.

@18:09 David Zaslav says, “It's an existential moment. What is what is the impact of ai.”

David Zaslav is misinformed when referinng to ai in terms of content creation. Ai cannot replace life experiences (the human condition as Maslow’s hierarchy) of content creation. The existential moment begin in 2000 with the onset of the ubiquity of the internet. Entertainment, especially visual media, consumption was disrupted and changed. That change is still ongoing. Recently, Covid lockdown exacerbated another disruption in the media industry in that people are going to movies less and getting their entertainment through other means, for example streaming as an alternative. Also, how people consume news from 2000 changed from paper print and has moved to Television and then online. Now, the disruption is a tech savy younger generation does not believe in the advocacy of mainstream corporate news for their lack of accuracy in reporting and CNN, Anderson Cooper is increasingly reporting on political oppinions and idealogy rather than facts.

@20:35 David Zaslav says, “The board went and spoke to investors and the existential issue for our company was to pay down the At get a solid balance sheet and have a company that generates real free cash flow. If you look around the media business, the if streaming services losing billions of dollars companies losing money and the key for us the artillery that we needed that was existential.”

Net Flix has a core streaming service and is profitable because they know the market audience and have produced high quality projects at a moderate budget level and are able to make a profit through “subs.” It is not that streaming is unprofitable, rather it is Warner’s streaming business under David Zaslav that is unprofitable.

@26:29 David Zaslav, “The Strategic question of should news networks be advocacy networks or should news networks be journalistic organization.”

The US is dropping aid into Gaza. Here’s why that will do little to ease a humanitarian crisis (3-9-2024)
https://www.cnn.com/2024/...intl/index.html
Niamh Kennedy, CNN write, “For starters, they are more expensive. Airdrops cost up to seven times as much as land deliveries, the WFP says. They also have much more limited delivery capacity. For example, one truck is capable of delivering nearly 10 times the amount one aircraft could deliver- roughly 20 to 30 metric tonnes, according to the UN.”

It is more expensive if aid trucks to stand idle at the border because Isreal is blocking the aid from coming through to Gaza. It is even more costly when IDF use armored tanks and IDF soldiers to fire on and kill unarmed civilians when they are trying to get food off land trucks.

The UN would not provide inaccurate information regarding logistics of aid delivery as many of their agencies have conducted humanitarian deliveries in conjunction with governments for more than decades.

US military aircraft airdrop thousands of meals into Gaza in emergency humanitarian aid operation (3-2-2024)

U.S. military C-130 cargo planes dropped food in pallets over Gaza on Saturday in the opening stage of an emergency humanitarian assistance authorized by President Joe Biden after more than 100 Palestinians who had surged to pull goods off an aid convoy were killed during a chaotic encounter with Israeli troops.

https://www.af.mil/About-...c-130-hercules/
C-130H: 23,000 feet (7,077 meters) with 42,000 pounds (19,090 kilograms) payload.

How Much Weight Can a Semi-Truck Carry (3-11-2021)
https://osagespecial.com/...mi-truck-carry/
[Excerpt] A semi-truck can haul between 42000 and 48000 pounds.

C130: max payload 42,000 pounds (21 tons)
Semi-Truck: max payload average 42,000 pounds (21 tons)

The ratio is not 10 to 1 as Naiml Kennedy writes. Actually, the Truck and the C130 can carry the same max weight and that is a 1 to 1 ratio. David Zaslav, Anderson Cooper, Caroline Kenndy, Jack Schlossberg, and CNN are advocating for genocide through casting doubt on humanitarian deliveries with the intent to starve Palestinians in Gaza.

Why does H.a.m.a.s fight alone?
But it was able to convince the world that the Pa.lesti.nians are being subjected to the worst holo.c.aust in history.
But the Arabs are punishing H.a.m.a.s because of its affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Leftist parties from all over the world came to support H.a.m.a.s. Because it represents one of the remnants of combating racism and oppression and supporting freedoms and democracy in the world. (This is what made South Africa try Israel in the International Court of Justice for the first time in history. Had it not been for this trial, Israel would have invaded Rafah and committed a second war of genocide.)
So the magic turned against the magician, and Israel, which represented the country that protected the Jews from persecution, became known to the world that H.a.m.a.s was being exposed to the worst holoc.aust in history by Israel.

It is the pearl of the United Arab Emirates(UAE) that eliminated the Arab Spring revolutions that were computerized against the Muslim Brotherhood. It destroyed the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria and Yemen, and bought the silence of President Erdogan in Turkey, Tunisia, Libya, and Sudan.
Therefore, Hamas remained alone. But Hamas was lucky when October 7 began during Biden’s term. If it had been during the era of Trump, who is an extreme rightist, in favor of the extreme right in Israel, things would have been different. Therefore, the war must end before Trump reaches the White House.

If Trump wins, the world will turn to the extreme right, meaning all right-wing parties around the world will win. This will be in Putin's interest and Europe will lose the war in Ukraine. Because Europe is moving to the extreme right in Italy and Switzerland.
