Hicham El Alaoui I'd be interested where you found the information that the bridge was failing. I read/heard that there were repairs being made to the surface. The last inspection I read it was considered to be in "fair" condition with a possible problem with a column. From several news channels lives were lost do the structure being hit by a cargo vessel. Not because the bridge collapsed on its own. Just the impact of the cargo ship to the bridges total collapse most likely there would be no survivors. The crushing blow, the metal collapsing and current of the water made conditions very dangerous for the rescuers. If I were a family member I would be devastated and never want them to stop looking but many rescues especially in water currents so swift it makes it very difficult. I read that they will continue tomorrow but to send divers down under these circumstances with not knowing how stable the crumbled bridge was very complicated. It is a tragedy; we can hope and pray that they find those involved. Prayers for the families.

Mariana Duarte Silva that is very true, but these types of rescues become very difficult if not impossible. There have been situations where building or homes are on fire and they know people are in there, but they will not let firefighters in the building if they believe their lives are too much at risk. It has to be terrible frustrating for any type of rescue crew. They said in this situation they could not determine how stable the bridge was after the collapse. The currents of the water are very strong and moving constantly. I do not believe they would just abandon the situation if for not putting others in harm's way.

Maria J. Sottosanti um, you clearly stated, it was “too fast to end the search- imagine it was one of their loved ones”. Had you * read*the article in the first place instead of berating the rescue efforts, you would KNOW just what exactly they were “ending” regarding the search. The article made the distinction as to why your “outcry” for a “too soon” search was a silly and moot point. . Again, READING matters before jumping to conclusions and being argumentative. The families who are suffering have the knowledge that the Coast Guard will continue to search for remains, but that recovery is no longer possible..

Domestic Terrorism??
Or great way to get federal Taxpayers to foot bill for bridge replacement DemLibCommieNaziParty con-artist thug run failed city state?? Looking at the original posted pre edited video you can see the ship make a hard turn towards the bridge support smoke stack billowing power going off and on. This has all the Hallmarks of precisely calculated terrorist attack mayday call and all!!! The Dem Lib Governor is quick to rule it out! Not to mention the dnc controlled media so quick to support! Why did the ship lose power???
Cyber attack?? It’s clear this was a very strategic bridge and waterway!!
It’s a win for the domestic DemLibCommieNaziParty con-artist thugs terrorist and their international partners , creates exceptional opportunity to claim ongoing inflation is being caused by this! Sounds like this whole thing was pre planned by the DemLibCommieNaziParty con-artist thugs using taxpayer funds like a personal credit card! Whatz next Norfolk???

Linus Vulaj typical Right wing nut speaking on stuff they know nothing about, so they create conspiracy theories.

Boats break down all the time. Just like card. *gasp*

When a boat breaks down it is at the mercy of the currents. That's what pushed it into the bridge despite them dropping anchor, which is protocol. The ship also called a mayday which helped slow and stop the flow of traffic albeit too late for some.

Tax dollars will definitely pay for the bridge though.

The sad part is, you never once mentioned the loss of life or how people's lives will be affected- those who lost loved ones, those who work the docks, work in the port etc.

Bryant Johnson
It’s their DEI hiring process
Look up the recent near air collisions and then look how what they base their hiring practices on in the last 8 years (DEI) they have also taking away the retraining process of these people because it was said to be racist to do such things ..

It’s all facts but you rather walk through life with binders on then to see actual facts based on actual evidence and statistics oh I’m sure you will come back with some clever clap back instead of doing a little research on the topic

Ps . By the way their DEI hiring
Goes all the way from the top down to the people picking gum from under the Seats that includes the people who put the planes together

Heather Litzinger it is like many disaster areas where they have to try and determine how stable the bridge is or if there is more danger to the bridge moving because of the water currents. The currents are constantly moving and are a danger to the rescuers. I am sure it is frustrating for the rescue crews to know they can no longer search. It is their job and what they are trained to do. But there are always other contributing factors when these decisions are made. I would be frustrated if my loved one was down there but would need to know the dangers for others who are risking their lives not knowing how stable the bridge is. Prayers to the families.

Matthew Sheldon Morris think about it. That situation was privately funded which has nothing to do with this situation. The sub was enclosed, and they knew if it had only lost communications there was a possibility they had enough air to survive. It wasn't until much later that they had determined that more than likely the sub had already imploded. Their bodies were never recovered. This bridge collapse was much different. These brave men/workers more than likely would have been crushed or drowned not long after the collapse. Any part of the bridge that was visible above water showed no one there. It does not mean they just walked away. The bridge was not able to be stabilized and so they have no idea how stable it was. They could determine what the water currents would be and said the currents were very strong. If a body had been thrown off the bridge and not trapped more than likely it would be taken with the current. We can only hope and pray that their bodies will be found so they can have the respect they deserve. Prayers to all of the families.

Zainab Mohamed one has nothing to do with the other. It was determined that the rescue crews would be put in very dangerous situation. The bridge was not stable as far as they could tell. Wouldn't do much good to have the divers trapped in the metal. The water currents are very strong and easily swept away. What does this have to do with any tax dollars for this bridge collapse or to do with the families. The last thing they are thinking about is their tax dollars. Prayers for the rescue of these victims and their families. You want to complain about your tax dollars go to a an appropriate post.
