The features are way beyond the EEZ of China and are 5 times further from their coast compared to the Philippines. The Permanent Court of Arbitration where China along with majority of nations are members also declared that the nine-dash line claim of China is illegal and doesn't have any historical merit. The Philippines on the other hand has the oldest map, the 1734 Velarde Map where the Scarborough shoal and Spratly islands was included thus the Philippines has the historical ownership of these features.
