For the fourth time since she became the federal government’s top Supreme Court advocate, Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar is arguing an abortion-related case.

Good gravy! Under the SCOTUS decision, the citizens of each decide. This would be the voting public. The voting public consists of Republicans, Democrats, Independents and the vast array of other political parties, groups and individuals. Each state holds different values and has different history. This too is why states are better equipped to make these decisions. Using sick pay???? In the real world, when you get a job with benefits you get paid sick time. This is a benefit form your employer of your union. If you don't get these benefits that's on YOU, not the rest of America. At this time, in some states, persons looking for an abortion will have to leave the state to get it. Some of these states the laws are being reviewed and will change. Other maybe not. Finally, to church and state. In the Declaration of Independence are the words: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". Your basic rights come from God. SO, its understood most people are guided in the personal lives by a God. The Constitution really restrictions government. The Bill of Rights, Amendment I:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." So the government can't establish a religion, or favor one over another. Your understanding of separation of church and state is completely wrong. People vote their values many of which come from the briefs. You can move, or work to change the law in your state. That's how America works.

Or how about prescription and recreational drugs? No one should be able to restrict you from consuming a drug if you want to. Or how about prostitution? No one should have the right to tell you whether you can sell your body for sexual services?

The issue surrounding abortion at its heart is really, at what point does the zygot/embryo/fetus have a "right" to life v the mother's "right" to control her own body? Under Roe, the SCOTUS said that the fetus could be protected at the point of viability which the Court saw at 24 wks. In reversing Roe, the SCOTUS did not challenge that point, but rather indicated that there was no Constitutional authority for the Court to restrict actions by the state in restricting abortions. They did not say that abortions were illegal. They did not change Roe's viability standard, they did not say that there were any restrictions on abortion, they merely returned the issue to the states because there was nothing in the Constitution which provided SCOTUS with the authority to effectively legislate abortion laws.


Jesse Dell-Ross Your ignorance of the Constitution amazes even me. This is a State issue not a federal issue. Period. That is what the Constitution says. In Ohio, the state you mentioned, has a new voter-passed amendment that enshrines abortion rights into the state constitution. After the SCOTUS ruling, many states reverted automatically to the old laws on the books. (This is because after Roe, the Federal Law was the land of the land.) So, the people of Ohio have established their abortion protections. To your second point, most Americans don't view abortions as "mental care" sing it out loud! Abortions! Stand up for what you believe. Ohio has at least 13 locations for abortions, and I am sure many more, they can usually be found in urban areas. But, California will pay for you to fly out there for an abortion. One can take a few days and make it a little vacation. Thirdly, you haven't dismantled anything. The Constitution makes abortion rights a state issue, the people of each state will figure out what protections they want, and as for me, I stand with the Constitution.
