This passing Congress with bipartisan support (in both House & Senate) means there is more at stake and people can’t see that. Both Republican and Democrats support this… get your head out of the sand and read some actual news NOT on TikTok. The spoonfed crap that may not even even US written by your preferred party but a foreign influence.
There is also already laws stating foreign entities cannot own US news stations, even allies, and since so many younger generations get their news from social media these days, it falls in line with precedent.

2º“Ban” is a word that exists here out of formality. The majority of Congress isn't entirely on board with putting a successful outlet like TikTok in jeopardy. There were House Republicans (i.e. Marjorie Taylor-Greene) who voted "no", because they rely on it for their constituents. This seems to be a very bipartisan issue; Republicans and Democrats are split. We know who's on ByteDance's board of directors, we know about the 50 Cent Army (which should now be called the "Dollar Army"), and we know the effect China's military-civil fusion has on the meddling of private and public tech sectors. Still - the U.S. and China have no choice but to trade with each other, but we MUST continue pushing supply chain companies to move to other jurisdictions, since we’ve let them basically control many; places like Vietnam, Thailand, India, and even back to the U.S.. What Xi Jinping's really worried about more than control of TikTok is a revolt throughout the country for democracy as they watch the freedom that Hong Kong has. Possibly in the next 10 years, we’ll see a movement there similar to what happened in Communist Europe in 1989.
3ºI'm South African, not American so I'm unclear on something. How can something that's got nothing to do with foreign aid be attached to a foreign aid bill to pass through the senate? Shouldn't it have been passed through as a separate bill because just because someone supports approving foreign aid doesn't mean they support the ban but would pass it regardless of personal opinions to get the foreign aid sent. I thought America was a free country where people had the freedom of speech, etc, etc... or is it only a "free country" so long as long as puppets comply with what the leaders dictate? I do hope that Sleepy Joe ends up losing a lot of votes in the upcoming elections because of this though...
4ºFrancos Kobby That's because in Africa you guys have been sold to the CCP. A lot of Africans who use TikTok are Nigerian hackers and scammers. Did the Chinese promise your village clean water if you come on here and defend their app? If Africans want to use the CCP app I could care less. Places like India, France and Australia are banning the app for similar reasons. The app has done lots of damage in the United States pushing anti-American propaganda and convincing American children to drink bleach to give China an edge. If Africans want to embrace that it's not my concern. How's the belt and road initiative going? The Chinese are trying to do a lot to exploit Africa. They will promise to build you a bridge and then your country will owe them forever. If you guys want to be tools for the CCP that's your problem. If they build you any buildings make sure they're not made out of tofu and fall apart if it rains. Apparently that's a problem.
5ºKyle John The difference is it's not just hacking. The CCP has been using the app to influence kids to commit crimes or to harm themselves. Only for Americans but not for the Chinese. It's malicious software. You don't hear about people dying from Instagram challenges.. The app was also designed to keep Americans divided politically and to weaken the country within. Other apps like YouTube and Facebook are not designed to weaken America and given edge to China. It was Chinese digital fentanyl for the West. The app was destructive for a number of reasons. Both sides politically agree that it was a problem and other countries around the world are also banning it. So listing other apps is not relevant because they are not controlled by our adversary overseas.

The reason why other countries and the United States are not banning other apps is because the other apps are not controlled by the Chinese Communist party. That's the difference. It's not going to work because other countries are banning it for the same reasons. The bill will ban other apps that are controlled by adversaries overseas so do some research. The app is designed to be destructive in the United States but the Chinese version is beneficial to the Chinese public. So please explain how that's helping Americans by allowing the wolf in the door? The CCP are not friends of the United States. So why should we believe that they are helping Americans when the evidence shows the opposite? Do you ever hear of people dying from Facebook or Instagram challenges? If you think this is a one-sided American issue then why are other countries around the world banning the app for the same reasons? I'm not the one who decided to ban the app in America and in other countries. However I do agree with that decision. Stop trying to talk to me in messenger. Why do you think it's okay for China to ban American apps like Facebook but we should allow the CCP to have apps for Americans manipulated by China? That doesn't seem fair does it? 10ºAll of you saying the app will just disappear...are just very unaware of how phones work. If I download the app on my phone and later the playstore removes it,the app remains on my phone, if I have a VPN based in Taiwan, Japan or even China...my app will continue to work. Even if the ban it today from the app store, all you need is to download a VPN on your phone(there are hundreds for free) and change your location to another country. Lol the only ppl that might struggle are iPhone users but if you got android, you have nothing to worry bout lol
