A nearly 300-year-old settlement once submerged beneath a major dam in the Philippines has reemerged as sweltering heat and drought dry up the reservoir.

I feel sorry for the people commenting here, making jokes about this. They don't know how hot it has become in parts of Asia, this is the most intense heat people are seeing this year, same here in India. Not long but a decade ago the summers were hot, but there was coolness during night time, gusts of winds felt cooler, the 5AM felt like cool, and pleasant. There were lights spell of rains in fortnight, and summers were very manageable. Nowadays even in the night time the coolness doesn't start unless it's 2AM. And the weather starts warming up at 5AM (which usually happened at around 9AM in previous summers).

Dex Sumter The sea is rising but it has not reached Pantabangan dam because the dam is approximately 761 feet ABOVE sea level.

Details from Copilot:

The **Pantabangan Dam**, situated on the **Pampanga River** in **Nueva Ecija province, Philippines**, serves multiple purposes: irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and flood control. Let's delve into the specifics:

- **Dam Height**: The **crest of the dam** stands at an elevation of **232 meters (761 feet)** above sea level ⁴. This embankment dam comprises three sections: the main dam, a saddle dam, and an auxiliary dam located near the spillway.

- **Reservoir**: The dam creates the **Pantabangan Lake**, which is one of the largest reservoirs in Southeast Asia. Its total capacity is approximately **2,996,000,000 cubic meters (2,428,897 acre-feet)**, with an active capacity of **2,083,000,000 cubic meters (1,688,716 acre-feet)** ².

- **Visible Old Town**: Interestingly, during periods of extremely low water levels in the reservoir (such as during El Niño events), the site of the old town of Pantabangan becomes visible. Visitors can even see the cross of the **Saint Andrew Church**, which was constructed in 1825 ².

So, to answer your question, the bottom of the Pantabangan Dam is approximately **232 meters (761 feet)** above sea level. ️
