3ºAshraf Adams That has nothing to do with the apps, but a lot to do with how society functions. And while you are not going to see it as a problem, we then have the opposite issue. We pay to narrow it down. Many times we don’t respond to messages because we have just had 20 different men message us all “hey” at the same time…or the really fun ones when they say things like “two truths and a lie” and all the answers are about him sleeping with people no person should ever sleep with. It may not be the same problems, but it’s equally bad on both sides.
4ºI think it was a cool feature for the ladies. I've heard the stories and get why that seemed like a good idea for them. Believe it or not, it doesnt make you a bad male for not feeling very welcomed by those power dynamics. I've met female stalkers, scammers, players with bad intentions, unsolicited advances, etc., and never once thought to myself that the best way to meet someone was to establish a power dynamic that placed a woman below me, needing my permission to speak. The matching stage, was the permission.
Some might find that a thing to laugh at. That's okay. I was never the guy for you nor were you the gal for me. I was lucky enough to meet someone the old fashioned way. Apps arent panning out to be what they were meant to be.
5ºCamila Broberg Yea, many guys don’t want to say the wrong thing in 2024 so they typically don’t say anything at all unless they are “invited” to make the move. If a guy is making a first move on a woman, it’s possible he’s making the same first move on a dozen other women. Give the shy guy a try. He’s less likely to cheat on you because he doesn’t know how to talk to a woman who he doesn’t know outside of “acquaintance mode.” He doesn’t want to say the wrong thing so he will psych himself out and not say anything at all.
6ºWomen sending the first message was the main appeal of the app. A little weird to change it since that was their niche. However, the only real change that needed to happen was the 24-hour expiration of matches if she doesn’t send the first message. It’s a little ridiculous to have matches go away after 24hours if they missed the match notification or haven’t been in the app for a few days.
Edit: after reading the article, the feature is still there technically. Women have the option to either still initiate the convo first OR they can choose a prompt for matches to respond to
