Amid campus protests, some teens and parents reconsider enrollment decisions | CNN Business

Earlier this year, an 18-year-old high school senior from New York City had planned to enroll at Columbia University’s sister school Barnard College in Manhattan as an early decision student. But after her parents saw heightened tensions over the Israel-Gaza conflict surface across some US campuses, including at Barnard and Columbia, they went back to her list.

Craig Baron given most 17 year olds can't afford their smart phone, and most 25 year olds working full time can't afford an apartment, car, insurance, and their utility bills...

...just where, exactly, do you think a 17 year old is going to come up with the cash to pay lawyers and court fees to become emancipated?

Moreover, states are raising the legal age to consent to marry to 18, and you have to be at least 18 to qualify for a credit card. Given the reasons behind those things, it is very hard to convince a judge that emancipation is in the best interest of a child. Most court systems have straight up policies against emancipation unless residing at home is impossible and all other options are exhausted, and even then the individual has to show they are capable of supporting themselves in all manners of life. It isn't easy. In fact, it is nearly impossible for a minor to emancipate today.

After hearing what's come from the mouths of the protesters, I doubt that Ivy League schools are good enough to charge what they do for tuition. They obviously weren't choosing the best and brightest to attend and their students clearly weren't learning anything of value when they got there.

Based on what we've seen these past few months, it's a solid bet you'll get more learning per dollar at a state university.

Seriously, if the kids at these protests were Mensa material and strategic thinkers they would've held out for their degrees and worked their way into positions that make policy. But because of their actions they'll get EXPELLED on their transcript, instead, and the only thing they'll be saying to the public in the future is "would you like fries with that?"

Life plays chess but the protesters showed up thinking it was checkers.

P.S. I've worked in sciences for 30 years and encountered very few individuals that got an undergraduate degree from an Ivy League school actualy working in the field. This week showed us why that is.

Wow some smart parents. I wonder how many of these students realize they just ruined their whole future.

Don’t they realize that on every corner now a days there are high definition security cameras. And everyone at these protests has a cell phone and posts on social media.

You can buy background software for as little as $600
So any job they ever apply for the employer can do a background check. And say this person burned the American flag or is a antisemite.

So which person gets hired. The flag burning antisemite or someone who was smart enough to avoid the protest

Islamica News 1. “If the Arabs would lay down their weapons, there would be no war. If Israel lays down its weapons, there would be no Israel”— Golda Meir. 2. Hamas has a “genocide” policy. So does Iran. 3. Israel, as well as any country, has the right to defend itself. 4. Protest that Hamas has not surrendered! 5. Protest that Hamas has still not returned hostages taken! 6. Protest that Hamas uses its own Gazan civilians as “human shields”. 7. Why are their no anti-Hamas protests? The lack reinforces Hamas’ terrorism. 8. Deaths in Gaza are the fault of Hamas. All they need to do to stop the war is SURRENDER!!! 9. If you and the Arabs who identify as "Palestinian" truly want peace what specifically do you propose that hasn't been proposed numerous times and been rejected? HOW do you PEACEFULLY solve the conflict once and for all without the total destruction of Israel! Please remember that numerous proposals for autonomy and land etc., have been previously offered and rejected!!!

Scally Cowell you do realize that they incessantly attacked israel with missiles , rockets and terrorists for years now, no?? I have to wonder why you do not know that , Also, well documented, they have massacred jews and christians since the mid 1800's, Our church in Gaza was attacked , threatened to convert or die, That church went from having over 5 thousand members to less than 500, some did convert for protection, others ran, Did you see what they did to the man who wanted to return to judaism? go check about that one!! Did you watch brett hume''s interviews with them months before oct 7? They bragged how they get paid if their kid attacks a jew, You solution to stopping this totally would be what? And by the way Scally, they also massacred a muslim bedoin tribe in Israel, <<that is what you are supporting,

These are people who are uncomfortable because they’re Zionists, not because they’re Jewish. There are a good deal of Jewish protestors on the side of Palestine and they’re not uncomfortable or unsafe over their identity; they’re unsafe because Zionists and institutions supporting them are jailing them, expelling them and physically harming them. Get it right CNN this piece is incredibly socially irresponsible and coddles the unfounded fears of entitled privileged people. Don’t give equal credence to the feelings of paranoid people when there are tens of thousands being killed by American artillery and thousands of protestors being brutalized by police while Zionist students commit atrocities on campus and get zero repercussions for it.

Craig Baron if you are 17 and you "move out" that's called "runaway" and it will land a child in state custody and a group home.

If you are 18 and file for FAFSA the first section is about your parent's income. It isn't optional, and the parent's income will be considered in the award decision regardless of your relationship with them. The more your parents make, the less aid they are going to offer. Period. You can write "I hate my parents" all over the application and the financial aid department will not care. Awards big enough to live on are going to the students with lowest household incomes, period.

Have you never gone to college???

Douglas Cochrane I know because the clips from CNN posted to YouTube have millions of views, comments, likes, and dislikes.

I mean, your argument might've gone somewhere in 1984. Dude, it's not 1984. The interaction metrics are posted right there with the segment.

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing you're about as internet illiterate as many of the protesters. Sure, they interact through SnapChat and TikTok, but time and again we see those same Ivy League kids shocked to see there is video of themselves saying dumb things being aired on the media. A good example was one of the organizers of the protest at Columbia. He told CNN the university had posted a statement to its website saying they would never allow the NYPD on campus. CNN checked and there was no such statement posted...ever. The kid, an Ivy League graduate student, honestly didn't know CNN could or would check.

You're coming off as that daft.

Cyril Edirivosa Eruemuose I don't 100% disagree. I don't think many people disagree with that statement. I think the issue is all these people who have been pushed into a slice of land without the ability to travel freely are under control by a hostile force controlled by Iran with motives to keep this going. Israel has made a situation where a terrorist acts against Israel and the people of that region are caught in the crossfire. People that can't leave, people that were evacuated to am area just to be hit with shells. Almost like tossing a grenade into a barrel. What do the Palestinians have to do to be safe from the conflict, the people who don't want to die, what are they supposed to do? Could you imagine a swat team blowing up a building full of hostages to take out the hostage taker and consider it a win? Well that's Palestinians.

10ºAngie Esposita O'Dowd I am totally aware of student loans because I had student loans and I paid them all off because I am a responsible adult.
And that's not all, while personally participating in the "One Man March" (not to be confused with the "Million Man March") on June 30, 2023 as documented at https://WTF-USA.com//OneManMarch.htm , I personally spoke with many whiney crybabies in front of the United States Supreme Court who were demanding that "We The People" pay off their school loans for them.
Not a single one had a valid argument as I spoke with them before, during, and after the United States Supreme Court rejected Joe Biden's "Student Loan Forgiveness Plan" on that day.
