1ºI hope the couple were able to get home safely and that the cruise line provided adequate support to make sure they were taken care of. Getting left behind by a cruise ship must be a terrible experience, especially if you're older and not in the best health. It's hard to imagine why the cruise line would abandon two passengers in Spain, especially elderly ones. There should be protocols in place to ensure that all passengers are accounted for before the ship leaves port. It seems like Norwegian Cruise Line might need to reevaluate their procedures and ensure that passenger safety is the top priority.
2ºFirst cruise I ever took and my 18 year old and 22 year old had to go to ER as one of them injured his ankle on a rented scooter during time on shore. Was told the ship medical department could not treat them even after they advertised a full medical center on board, and if they were not back in time the ship would leave and if it was actually broken, then he could not get on the ship even if he was back in time after ER visit! And I would be responsible for flying them back to the states. Fortunately they returned in time and it was only a sprain. Will never take another cruise!
