Everyone commenting loves to clearly dismiss the actual concerns of black people and is clearly being reactionary and not even reading the article or the actual reason why people are upset.

The one pigment in this foundation, advertised for daily wear, is black oxide. Literally JUST BLACK pigment. No human on Earth is jet black, so save the “I know somebody that black ” BS cause it ain’t true. Literally the darkest models she could pay to use this STILL DID NOT MATCH. Also, no you cannot “mix” it as mixing black pigment will simply create a muddy gray look.

Every human on this Earth has undertones. Even the blackest people are a dark deep BROWN. Not vanta black, and the fact a MAKEUP brand failed at basic color theory and did not make a whiteout level white foundation but made a pure jet black should tell you all you need to know.

Some of you need to ask yourselves why your first reaction is to simply dismiss valid concern from actual people this is targeted to.

Hannah Becker The article definitely gets into the discussion of the lack of representation for darker shades of skin and how brutal that difference is compared to lighter shades.

It's the comments by this particular "TikTok" person curiously testing various lines darkest shades when she doesn't have the darkest tint herself and then complaining about something being darker than her that irked me.

Oh, she went on to complain about the lack of representation afterwards - but in a typical fashion oft seen these days, her initial remarks ignored representation.

She could have easily commented on the lack of shades offered by the company, she could have easily lambasted them for the lack in range between their two darkest shades, and every other thing that's wrong with the lack of representation in the makeup industry (and the fashion industry as well)...but her saying that certain POC are equivalent to wearing blackface - that's bigotry and irks me.

Tami Lou-Who no where did I see there is black pigment but the lady claims it to be as such. The brand only has 15 shades lol... So it's missing the mark for many. If you know how, you may be able to formulate your shade by combining different shades. But who the hell wants to do that?
There are so many brands today with a wider range of colors and formulas to suit different shades and skin textures. In my opinion it's best to try them in person. Fenty and Bobbi Brown are pretty safe to try if you've had issues finding your shade.

Oh Nyeka I have actually and the famous Sudanese model with a very dark complexion tried this foundation on and it was still to black like black face paint. Again. Our skin is not BLACK no matter how dark we are I think that is the point you are missing. If you want to make a foundation for darker skin you would use blue undertones not BLACK pigments. That foundation has black pigment. I’ve never heard of a foundation with BLACK pigment. Even if there are ppl who could wear that color foundation the number is so small it would be bad for business. Rather than making a foundation she could make a dark color mixer to mix a foundation to get a darker color. Fact is she didn’t care or maybe she did it on purpose because even bad publicity is publicity. She knew what she was doing!

Dreenie RJ you don’t. You’ve NEVER seen ANYONE with the same complexion of black paint. Never. This foundation has NO undertones— it’s just black! When they did a test, this foundation didn’t even match the complexion of the darkest people to exist. You clearly know nothing about skin tone, undertones, nor color theory. You should ask yourself why is it harder for me to accept that the darkest of people are not the same color as black paint but much easier for me to use my eyesight to understand that white people are not the same color as white paint.

Please stop making excuses for this brand because it’s showing your ignorance amongst other things.

Jason Kelley it’s the SAME COLOR as black paint— no undertones whatsoever. Actually a supermodel from one of the darkest complexions to exist is NOT a match for this foundation. It’s too dark for her. The brand went on a “mission” to find someone to match and tried it on a group of people with the darkest skin tone and it didn’t match them (they lied and tried to say it did but anyone with eyes could tell that was BS). Even with the darkest skin tone there are still undertones. If you think that the darkest people are just plain BLACK you know nothing about skin tone, undertones, and just plain eyesight! Because the darkest of complexions are NOT the same color as BLACK PAINT.
Y’all gotta stop excusing ignorant behavior. It’s 2024- NO EXCUSES for ignorance when it comes to stuff like this.

Btw… I know dark people are beautiful. You don’t have to tell me or convince me if that— maybe you’re trying to convince yourself. That’s irrelevant what this brand is going.

Teandra Storey neither of those woman are Khoudia Diop. They may be dark skinned women, yes but again does not mean their skin is the exact same as another person's. Funny how I give one example and say she hasn't tried it and you go "yes she has" and then post completely different women as proof of HER trying it. They may be dark skinned but clearly aren't the market demographic for that level of dark skin they made the product for. To say it doesn't fit for any person is like saying someone that dark isn't a person. Who's the ignorant one here truly?

It’s always pale skin ppl with so much to say about brown and dark skin ppl issues! ALWAYS! The audacity of you ppl. Stay in your non melaninated lane. Worry about your tans and how to effectively enjoying darker skin without harming your skin seeing how that’s a major problem with you ppl. and all the dangerous tanning products out here on the market. That should be your focus. Stay in your place. These darker shades of foundation AREN’T for you and if a company want to market to the people they are for they need to get it right. Period. You ppl barely have any melanin… YALL have to partake in dangerous practices just to bring out the little that you have. Sit this one out. Focus on sunscreen.

Cheyanne Miller they only used jet black pigment as the color (it’s the only pigment listed in the ingredients). which is not how skin shades are supposed to be mixed—skin tone is made up of many shades as a result of how melanin works and the many layers of blood vessels and other matter underneath the skin. not simply “black pigment”
which is what was used in this case. because of this the foundation does not appear like skin at all and when any makeup mixes with the foundation it turns gray, additionally making the foundation impossible to work with.

10ºElizabeth Knighten you said a Senegalese model and I gave you 2 Senegalese models who skin doesn’t fit this. If you watched the video they are amongst the DARKEST group of people that are in this planet. BUT since you continue to want to sit in your ignorance and even argue it… let’s give you FACTS and SCIENCE! The fact that you really think that dark skin people are the same color as black paint is CRAZY!!! As I said— NO ONE IS THIS COLOR— we all have undertones!

Crazy that it’s easier for you to accept that no one is the color of white paint but hard for you to fathom that no one is the color of black paint. And got the nerve to argue a known fact. Bless your ignorant little heart.
