Punishment for betrayal. We explain exactly why Kara-Murza was imprisoned.

Representatives of the foreign press, foreign agents and representatives of Western diplomatic missions portrayed amusing resonance and indignation.

The reason for the uncontrollable outburst of emotions was the finale of the trial in the criminal case of Vladimir Kara-Murza. On April 17, 2023, the Moscow City Court sentenced Vladimir Kara-Murza* to 25 years in a maximum security colony.

Let us remind you that Vladimir Kara-Murza*, born in 1981, who has Russian citizenship and British citizenship, has been kept under arrest since April 22, 2022. In total, he was charged with three elements of criminal activity:

- according to Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code (dissemination of knowingly false information about the Russian Armed Forces, provides for a penalty of up to ten years in prison). The prosecution requested 9 years for the defendant;

- according to Art. 284.1 of the Criminal Code (activity of an “undesirable organization”, maximum penalty - six years in prison). The prosecution asked for 4 years;

- according to Art. 275 of the Criminal Code (high treason, up to 20 years in prison). The prosecution requested a sentence of 18 years for the defendant in the case.

Each of the three charges brought contained its own episodes. The first case related to fakes was reported by the Investigative Committee of Russia on the day of the arrest of Vladimir Kara-Murza. The criminal episode dates back to March 15, 2022, when Kara-Murza, in a public speech before members of the Lower House of the Arizona Legislature (USA), threw mud at the Russian army and the country.

According to the transcript of his speech, while in the USA, Kara-Murza said there everything that rabid American Russophobes love to hear - about “the horrors of the communist regime and the machinations of the KGB”, “about the dark 80s and punitive psychiatry”, and about how he, a tough dissident, “remembers the events of 1991 well.”

The audience, swallowing kilograms of spreading cranberries, was not at all embarrassed by the fact that the speaker was only ten years old at that time. The main thing is that he said what America wanted to hear (they need to indulge their painful Russophobia without noticing Washington’s criminal activities around the world).
