This place is ‘run by a mob’: Inside the prison where Robert Brooks was beaten to death | CNN

The beating and death of an inmate at a New York prison last month has sparked a firestorm of criticism over the violence and brutality some inmates experience at the hands of corrections officers

Rick Whitten in reading some of the article there is an alleged culture of violence and intimidation. While I’m sure some inmates (I don’t recall the level of jail/printing this is or what population this was) but some who are in jail are violent and intimidating, I of course would not know the procedures of officers but I’m sure there are allowed tactics and swarming for their safety and the safety of the inmates. That should not include retaliatory or proactive violence or intimidation on the part of officers. However, in chaotic dangerous situations it is vey easy to be overcome and folks can make very wrong decisions on both sides. I would want to work in corrections as they have a very tough, unappreciated job managing (defending on the prison) a variety of offenders. Sometimes it comes down to training and the culture of the program, internally. But make no mistake, there are inmates that will use violence and intimidation on other inmates and guards. I would want to know in what way the 14 prison staff were involved, what the circumstances were of the underlying situation, and what protocols were used that may have failed. Kicking and punching I’d say are not procedure.

William Renn II The point of prisons is to take violent criminals off the streets not to have them victimized or murdered by other criminals whether in a uniform or in a jumpsuit. I’m sorry 14 men against one man who is handcuffs is cruel and unusual punishment.

It’s torture!

These incidents don’t take a month long worth of investigations when there’s clear and present evidence on video in a government ran facility.

Each one of those officers are required to write a supplemental report and I guarantee you that nothing they wrote in their incident report justifies beating and murdering a handcuffed inmate.

Review the surveillance video and read those 14 supplemental reports compare them to the surveillance video and locate the inconsistencies in their report.

And finally asked yourself the question why out of 14 officers body cameras doesn’t any of them have sound?

And review other instances where sound from body cameras are turned off?

And then locate the patterns. How many times has this officer been involved in an incident where his body camera sounds was turned off?

And now look at criminal intent?

Brandon Akins say it you low rent to liberal, SAY IT…. Donald J Trump will be the next president. And for at least two years, the Democrats won’t be able to do a thing about the laws that are passed.
That being said it was Biden that institute these long laws for criminals causing millions to end up incarcerated on ridiculous charges.
Now go see your psychiatrist, imagine the run on the antipsychotic medications there will be when the rest of the low rent, liberals figure out that Trump will actually be their president for the next four years. ????????????????

I say one thing every time. Evaluate your personal life. If you live in America you will live freely. Don't make friends with criminals because the day they arrest them you may be implicated. Don't fight or cause harm to anyone, don't steal, don't disobey traffic rules, don't run away from your responsibility as a parent, don't do drugs or use drugs in states that ban them..the list goes on.....why???? If you break any of these rules you have invited the FBI or police into your life. Most likely you will end up in prison. So your goal in life is to avoid anything that invites police into your life you will enjoy living a free life in America.
If you look at majority who end up getting killed by police or corrections they usually have a criminal history. And people would be asking if they should even support the right of such individuals when killed. so be wise ...the crime rate is high. And yet people complain of high incarceration. well if people were more responsible then the prisons would be empty.

Prisons have an obligation to protect all prisoners from any kind of harm. They should be sued every time an inmate is beaten or hurt by another inmate. The entire prison administration should be fired if guards intentionally harm an inmate.

Actually protecting inmates would be an expensive task. But the US incarcerates more people than any other country in the world and at a higher rate than any country in the world -- six times the average European rate.

Our justice system needs major reform from top to bottom. Folks like Trump can afford to delay or thwart justice. While poor people can't afford defense and are often forced to plead guilty to offenses they haven't committed.
