It's so happened because of the wrong choice of policy makers of US. This is the facts that I warned you years ago. You all saw the darker side of Modern East India Co. of colonial era. The biggest mistake was not listening to Trump's advice to decrease US$ value when China was adding tons of gold in their reserve and exchanging huge amount of US$ with Fed Reserve.
Now, all we can do is to accept the the truth that China has already won the race and some of their policies are really excellent and for being saved from more damages, you can only do is :
Gold should be the media of exchange in international business. And product prices should be rated & tagged as like 1 pack cigarette price is: 3 USD or 2.5 Euro &=0.0003mg gold. For that all the currency should be evaluated against the gold price of the individual currency's local market, not the currency evaluation or valuation against each other or with a stronger one, either it's crypto or cash currency. That will be easy for buyer too to estimate price in any local market. That means I'll ask my international supplier "how many MG gold is your product, not how much Euro are you going to charge me for your cigarettes. :D All conflicts and Big boss favours will be gone automatically. US Fed Reserve should start returning the golds to the countries and return to gold system or people'll start buying yen in nearer future which can't be stoped by reaching a deal with china.

Don't you see the sufferings of chinese rule in HK, tibet, taiwan, xinjian and many more or their colonial take overs in most of african, srilankan, pakistani ports and roads. Chinese people became much han communist soldiers than being chinese as before. That is might be for the greed of present communists in an ambition of a colonial rule over. We should atleast try stoping the economic and military growth of this present han china from being the only largest economy to protect the world. Take time man, think again again. Retaliation is a strong word. They said that? Seriously? And to their words too that the not sending of US teams to the Winter Olympics is a "boycott"- which is a very contentious word to use. Will this be a deal-breaker for China if US shall "beg-off" from participating in the events for some reason that entitles them and valid at that as when other participating nations like Canada, Australia, UK, Germany, France, etc. for their own reasons too that they cancel their engagement to said world sports event and if they do so, will they be told of that strong word, "RETALIATION"? Or just the US alone. Wow, dig deeper and you'd perceived some "snobbish" underlinings." By who? Those who claim they belong to the "superpower" category. Makes sense dear, thus the use of the word "retaliation" + the "diplomatic boycott" thing. A competion of national ego, sports just come second. Wow, actually.

I think China has used “ retaliation” million of times. That’s their favorite diplomatic word but no need to fear. At the very first, IOC should not award China with an opportunity to host Olympics. Learn from 2008 Summer Olympics. There has been more human rights violation, genocide, disappearing of Journalists, dissidents, writers, Jack Ma, Brutalization of Hong Kong, military built up in South China Sea, border incursions into India, Corona Virus, so on and on…… We have no respect or regards to IOC. IOC is made of few corrupted individuals who traded off the very basic principles of IOC for money with China! Please host no more Olympics! It’s a disgrace now to talk about Olympics for all the other countries!

China didn't threaten rather they retorted the US for being such a childlish and propagandist when China never even invited US officials for the Olympics ceremony.
You can see the videos where Chinese Foreign Ministry clarifications in this regard in youtube or news as well.
Anyway, good play CNN. We know you and your govt are frustrated for not being invited in the party.
After all, it's a good chance your govt has created for China to play a bigger game in the future against anything hosted or organised by US. Too many propagandist and delusional think thanks in your Country is the beginning of your own downfall.
