I love how CNN twists headlines to keep the division going. Owensby was asked several times to exit the vehicle. The officers said that they would assist him, several times. Owensby refused to exit. He was then forcibly removed. Believe me, officers know who they're dealing with before they get out of the cruiser. Does he have a rap sheet? Yes. Was he observed leaving a suspected drug house? Yes. Did he use his excuse of being disabled to avoid compliance with the officers? Yes.
The funny thing about this is, I don't see any equipment in the vehicle for a paraplegic to drive it. Nor do I see a wheelchair. His race has absolutely nothing to do with the traffic stop, and saying that it does, just goes to show how ignorant some are.

I just cried at the way he was treated. The officers could have calmed down and asked instead of demanding to get out of the car how he got in. He clearly was not getting out regardless and had every right to seek a supervisor. And when forced out of the vehicle him yelling for help because his own police department was abusing him and violating his rights. I feel officers need more mental health training on how to deal with situations like this. I just can't stop crying this is just makes me so sad and angry when will the fighting and shouting and hatred stop. Seriously!

Let me fix this headline for you CNN

A possible criminal was pulled over after leaving a well known drug house with what the IRS would call straight out drug money as no normal person would be driving around with more than 22k in cash.

This man was asked to get out of his car he said quote no they offered to help him out of his car he again said no. So they did what they had to do they dragged a criminal out of his car. If he was innocent he would have let them cops search his car and help him out.

I have no problem letting the police search my car and i will always get out of my car when they ask me. I am not hiding anything from them.

I’m paraplegic and this broke my heart when the young man said that’s not gonna be possible for him to get out the car cause it’s obvious he don’t have his wheelchair with him and I do that to if I’m going somewhere where I’m not getting out the car I’m going to an drive thru or just picking someone up I leave my wheelchair outside my house door where no one can see it and I leave and that’s how he gets in and out the car before he leaves his house to those that made fun of how did he get in the car how was he gonna get out smh

this is so messed up BUT please know they DO NOT have to read you your rights to arrest you. They will read you your rights if they feel like you are going to say something that they may want to use against you later in court but they dont have to read them to you to arrest you. IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE SO KNOW THE LAW AND YOUR RIGHTS. My rule is if they read you your rights conversation is over. They are giving you a warning. You have the right to remain silent means stop talking say NOTHING.

Regardless of his criminal history, background, etc... the facts are:
-He is a paraplegic
-He is driving a modified vehicle for a physically disabled body. (Hand controls)
-There are steps and procedures for driving a personal handicapped vehicle
-There are steps and procedures for assisting a physically disabled person in or out of a vehicle.
-Often times, paraplegic, quadriplegic and amputees have to have a series of surgeries, treatments and physical therapies. Over the course of their life, is not uncommon either.

With that said, what part of this event should have NOT required further trained assistance for this young man to be properly removed from his vehicle??? Just because he is paraplegic, does NOT mean they couldn't have done further damage to his already ailed body. In fact, he is likely at greater risk. What if he had just underwent recent surgery or treatment for his afflicted lower half??? (After being cleared by a doctor to drive - common sense)

There are so many variables to consider. Not one of them should have been opted to use excessive force.

1st his car was not set up for a paraplegic no hand gears on the stearing wheel no wheel chair in there and it was said he was seen walking from a known drug house and got in his car. So hard to explain that away.so many do use any excuse to avoid arrest. Not all but many do I seen it first hand. People as in.liar liar need to heed stop breaking the law a**ho**!!maybe they wouldnt get stopped and arrested so sick of it all.. I do agree it could have been handled differently but i believe the police are tired of it too. Such a line to deal with..

He deserved to be pulled out of the car , for refusing to comply . However I do not agree with them pulling on to his hair to get him out At All . As a nurse that has worked with the exact type of patient , “ being a paraplegic and resisting is what I’m referring to “ many times . And I have NEVER pulled a patient by their hair . One could have held his arms and one could have pulled the paralyzed legs from the car . No need to have EVER touched his hair . That’s abuse of power without a doubt

I think they need more training to handle disabled people. I can imagine if the guy was able to walk, they would not have to drag him but pull him or her along because they are able to walk.

I can not imagine a paraplegic want to do harm though because with them being in such a compromised position they would be more humble. They can not really resist arrest either.

These cops need more training for things like this. I hope the police departments are seeing these comments. It’s a shame if they don’t work on the feedback given my society.

Cops are getting bad rep due to their on negligence.
